Wendy Lang – CEO

Wendy has over 20 years experience in management, 15 years in the Australian Public Service, administering the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander National Education Policy and more recently, 9 years experience in the  Queensland public service as a Studies Director with the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE. Formal qualifications held are a Diploma of Teaching (Prim); and a Bachelor of Management.

Tom Evans – Finance Manager

Tom is the longest standing employee with QYS, having worked with the organisation since 2004. He has extensive experience in a range of bookkeeping functions including but not limited to, purchasing, pay clerk, quality assurance, and workplace health and safety. In 2009 Tom participated in the Skilling Queensland program’s recognition of prior learning and obtained a Diploma of Business. Tom also has the Certificate IV in Workplace Training (2001).


Gaye Bickle – Resource Officer

Gaye has been employed with QYS since 2008.  She has previous experience in business, the employment industry and with group training. Gaye has extensive knowledge in the tendering process, policies and procedures and fundraising. Gaye has completed a Cert IV in Workplace Assessing and Training in 2001, but since working with QYS, Gaye has also achieved a Cert IV in Business Administration, a Diploma in Community Development and a Cert IV in Volunteer Management

Leigh Henaway – Reconnect Program Team Leader

Leigh has been working in welfare services since 1998, in areas of health, education, housing and justice. She has a broad overview of the range of issues impacting on youth. Leigh’s formal qualifications include, Cert IV in Workplace Assessment and Training; Cert IV in Community Services; Diploma in Child Protective Care.

Ruth Martin – Young Parents Programs (YPP) Coordinator

Ruth has worked for QYS in the Young Parents program since 2007. Prior to this she worked in the education and special education sector for 4 years. She also operated a small business in Info Tech, designing web sites, retail, and software training. Ruth‘s qualifications are: Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Psychology.

Richard Outtrim – Townsville Youth Housing & Reintegration Service (TYHaRS) Program Coordinator

Richard commenced working with QYS in the TYHaRS program in 2010 as a Case Worker and then secured the Program Coordinators role in 2015. Prior to 2010, Richard worked with the Department of Child Safety as a Child Safety Officer for four years.  Other experiences include – an Education and Welfare Officer in London for two years, a Youth Worker at Cleveland Youth Detention Centre, and also has an extensive military background.  Richard qualifications include Bachelor of Community Welfare.

Amanda Skinner – Recycle Your Dreams Program Social Enterprise Manager

Amanda commenced with QYS in 2017 as the Social Enterprise Manager for the Recycle Your Dreams Empowering Youth Initiative.  Prior to that Amanda has worked as the General Manager of Consumer Business for the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.  Amanda completed her Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing and Human Resource Management and is currently studying for her Masters of Business Administration.
