Volunteering with us

Volunteers give freely of their time, talents, skills and energy with no expectation of monetary compensation. QYS will provide the opportunity for a volunteer service where and when possible, and in accordance with our service philosophy.

To become a volunteer with QYS you must hold a current Working with Children Blue Card and complete the Appendix 5.17_2014 Volunteer application.  Applications for the ‘Working with Children’ Blue Card can be submitted with the application but volunteering work cannot commence until a positive notification has been received.

Doing your Placement with us

Queensland Youth Services (QYS) recognises its responsibility to assist in the development and education of students in the community service industry by providing opportunities of field placements.  QYS will support the development of students from both registered training organisations (RTO’s) and universities.

To request a Student Placement with QYS, please complete the Appendix 5.18_2014 Student Placement form and forward to the Office Administrator by email – email hidden; JavaScript is required. Once received, the student will be invited to participate in a pre-placement interview with the CEO and the nominated team leader / program co-ordinator (for university students) or the Resource Officer (for RTO students).

The decision to accept a placement will be based upon:

  • basic understanding of youth issues
  • agreement with the philosophy of QYS
  • ability to recognise and articulate their own learning needs
  • ability of QYS  to meet students expressed learning needs.
  • Workable ratio of student / QYS supervisor in order not to impact on service operations
  • Reporting requirements placed on QYS supervisors by the RTO or University, and the impact on the employee’s workload.

All Students on placement must have a current working with children “Blue Card”.


Join our Management Committee

Queensland Youth Services is a Not for Profit organisation, governed by a Management Committee. QYS values the views of all members of the community and encourages a diverse representation. We are calling for expressions of interests to fill 2 positions on our Committee.

As a Management Committee member you would be responsible for setting the strategic direction of QYS, monitoring the governance as well as our commitment to the aims, objectives and legislative laws QYS comply with to meet its contractual obligations.

All management committee members participate in an induction and must hold a current Blue Card (working with Children).

Early Intervention Worker – Reconnect Program

The Reconnect Program’s objective is to prevent homelessness by intervening early with families and young people to stabilise and improve their housing situation and improve their level of engagement with family, work, education, training and community.

Position requirements—

· Relevant degree in Human Services, Community Services or related field,

· Able to demonstrate an understanding of collaborative, outreach case management practices,

· Demonstrated time management, setting priorities and decision making practices,

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team,

· Sound computer and technology skills,

· Holder of current Working with Children Blue Card,

· Demonstrated ability to work with diverse cultural  groups,

· Experience with family reconciliation / mediation.
