Volunteering with us

Due to the recent COVID-19 restrictions QYS had previously made the decision to cease volunteer shifts. With the restrictions now gradually lifting we are currently assessing which of our programs can support volunteers. At this stage we only have vacancies with the LearnIt Youth Mentoring Program (for more information click on the LearnIt link under the Programs tab)

Volunteers give freely of their time, talents, skills and energy with no expectation of monetary compensation. QYS will provide the opportunity for a volunteer service where and when possible, and in accordance with our service philosophy.

To become a volunteer with QYS you must hold a current Working with Children Blue Card. An application for Volunteer work with QYS can still be processed, however volunteering cannot commence until a positive notification has been received.

Doing your Placement with us

Due to the recent COVID-19 restrictions QYS had to make the decision to cease student placements until the isolation restrictions are lifted. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Queensland Youth Services (QYS) recognises its responsibility to assist in the development and education of students in the community service industry by providing opportunities of field placements.  QYS will support the development of students from both registered training organisations (RTO’s) and universities.

To request a Student Placement with QYS, please contact the Office Administrator by email – email hidden; JavaScript is required, in the event QYS have the capacity to take a student for placement, the student will be invited to participate in a pre-placement interview with the CEO and the nominated team leader / program co-ordinator (for university students) or the Office Administrator (for RTO students).

The decision to accept a placement will be based upon:

  • basic understanding of youth issues
  • agreement with the philosophy of QYS
  • ability to recognise and articulate their own learning needs
  • ability of QYS  to meet students expressed learning needs.
  • Workable ratio of student / QYS supervisor in order not to impact on service operations
  • Reporting requirements placed on QYS supervisors by the RTO or University, and the impact on the employee’s workload.

All Students on placement must have a current working with children “Blue Card”.
