Good News Story: Levi Cook’s Journey to Stability and Success
Levi Cook was first referred to YHARS in May 2024 from the Townsville Recovery Centre. At the time of referral, Levi was grappling with substance misuse and significant health challenges while facing the looming threat of homelessness.
Upon joining the YHARS program, Levi initially worked with James O’Hagan before being supported by Saad Butt and ultimately by Dalen Steenhuis. The collaborative efforts of the YHARS team and Levi’s determination resulted in remarkable progress.
Since engaging with the program, Levi has:
- Successfully completed his rehabilitation program.
- Achieved his forklift licence and Certificate I in Construction, both funded by the YHARS program.
- Been placed on all relevant housing service lists.
- Regained critical identification documents, including his birth certificate and ID.
- Obtained his learner’s licence, nearing completion with support from the Learn It program.
Levi’s commitment to improving his life has paid off. He has taken back control of his health and mental wellbeing and is now looking forward to transitioning out of rehabilitation. Furthermore, Levi has secured full-time employment with DJS Fencing after a recommendation by Dalen Steenhuis to the business owner, Dylan Stevo. This new role marks a significant step towards his ultimate goal of achieving stable, independent accommodation.
The YHARS team is immensely proud of Levi’s dedication and achievements. His journey highlights the profound impact of tailored support programs and personal determination.
